Modugno-Hortibec Awarded License for Zeba® Gardening Soils in Canada BEAVERTON, Ore. (February 27, 2008) Unique Zeba superabsorbent soil amendment now included in soils from leading distributor Absorbent Technologies, Inc. (ATI) and Montreal-based Modugno-Hortibec, Inc. announced today the signing of a licensing agreement for the inclusion of ATI's patented ZebaŽ brand starch-based superabsorbent ingredients in packaged potting soils for consumers in Canada. "Through the years we've seen many ingredients claiming to increase moisture retention in soils, but Zeba is clearly the leading technology and reduced water usage by more than 35% in our trials," says Rene Modugno, CEO and Chairman for Modugno-Hortibec. "Our customers expect performance, and that's what separates our brand from others. Now, with Zeba, we have an environmentally friendly way to grow better plants while supporting our country's goal of water conservation." Developed from natural cornstarch, Zeba is the first soil amendment specifically optimized for improved moisture retention and nutrient availability, creating an ideal growing environment. Like a sponge, small Zeba granules hold and release water in a potting soil, over and over again, reducing heat and moisture stress in plants of all types. Growers find that in using Zeba, they get 'more plant, using less water.' Modugno-Hortibec is one of the largest Canadian-owned soil and fertilizer companies, with products available at over 2,000 major Canadian retailers. In addition to the company's own brands, it produces products for retailers such as Loblaws, The Home Depot, Canadian Tire, and Wal-Mart. In spring of 2008, Modugno-Hortibec will release its first Zeba-enabled potting soil under the Loblaws "President's Choice" label. "Rene and his team have set the standard for high quality potting soils in Canada, and we're pleased to include them among the industry leaders in our licensing program," says Larry Logan, Chief Marketing Officer for ATI. "We look forward to the launch of additional new products with Modugno-Hortibec in the near future." About Absorbent Technologies, Inc.Absorbent Technologies, Inc.
